Architectural Features

Located on the Downtown Road, it is one of the world’s largest shopping malls. Dubai Mall, home to the city’s most luxurious stores, was constructed by Emaar Properties, which has undertaken major investments in Dubai, such as the Dubai Marina and Dubai Hills. Construction began in September 2005, and the building was completed in November 2008. When designing Dubai Mall, one of the city’s notable structures, the goal was to ensure visitors’ comfort while shopping and to provide everything they might need in one place.

Built on 1.124 million square feet, this colossal structure is 108 feet wide and 27 feet tall. During the construction phase, the mall’s outer frame was created with high-performance glass. After the skeletal framework of the building was established, patterned and backlit glass panels were placed at the entrance of Dubai Mall to enhance the lighting and create a more spacious appearance inside the mall than it actually is. To provide visitors with a mesmerizing view, precast facades were acid-etched without using a paint system to give a rustic look. Simultaneously, thick polyisocyanurate panels were applied to the mall’s walls to maintain a balance of cold and warm, while the exterior walls were reinforced with glass-fiber-reinforced plaster panels.
