Architectural Features

The Burj Al Arab hotel, renowned as one of the most luxurious hotels in the world, is situated along the Jumeirah coastal road. Its construction began in 1994 under the Jumeirah Group, known for developing prestigious projects such as the Zabeel Palace in Palm Jumeirah and the Bahrain Golf and Spa Hotel in Bahrain. Upon completion in 1999, Burj Al Arab attained the distinction of being the world’s only 7-star hotel. The hotel’s design was inspired by a sailboat, aiming to create the impression of a massive sail on the shoreline.

This magnificent structure stands at a height of 320 meters and is built on a foundation of piles. The foundation was supported by 250 columns with a diameter of 1.5 meters and 9,000 tons of steel. More than 2,000 construction workers were involved in the construction process, resulting in an engineering marvel that defies challenges posed by ground-structure interaction, water effects, and strong winds. The rear of the building features a core to which steel frame members are attached, enhancing the structural integrity. Three steel tube cages on both sides of the Burj Al Arab provide strength against potential lateral earthquake movements.

Inside the Burj Al Arab, there is an impressive 80-meter-long, 18-story atrium. The atrium houses a grand aquatic aquarium with windows constructed from 18 cm thick glass, capable of withstanding water pressure. The hotel prioritizes guest comfort and offers dedicated service with a team of 8 specially trained personnel and round-the-clock butler service.

Most of the rooms offer views of the Gulf, providing the opportunity to enjoy a panoramic view of the Dubai Gulf. Additionally, at the top of the hotel, there is a helipad, a racetrack, a boxing ring, a tennis court, and a jumping point for the highest kite-surfing jump in history.
